Why, due to their polarised models? Resolution is halved on those models.

If you don't have lighting issues, Panasonic and Samsung plasmas offer the best 3D performance. If you want to go LCD, Samsung's probably your best bet.

Only the 3D.

You can't up the resolution with a firmware update, the limitation is due to the physical resolution of the panel. You would need double the resolution of a 1080p panel in order to provide a full 1080p image to each eye. The glasses are the same as the sort you would use at the cinema but I couldn't say if a pair from the cinema would work. No idea what S.A. prices are like.

Just had a Panasonic 55" plasma on test, latest and greatest. 3D? What a waste of time.

 IMHO. :)

interesting. I'd like to see a professional review. doesn't joel have one of their 72" models for review? maybe he can apply the update and see whether it makes a difference.

That's an interesting solution, I wonder how well it would work. I'd imagine this interlaced method would introduce some visual side effects, similar to what you get on a CRT.

@ Bizkit: The panel still can't show a full 1080p frame. What it will do is flash half the frame in one pass and the other half in another, your brain would then combine the two frames, the same way you do when viewing a CRT display. it sounds like a pretty good solution, although it doesn't look like you'd be able to view BDs at 24fps.

How are the lg 3D plasmas? I know its come along wat since the old days of plasma but can the new ones hold its own against a lcd/led?

I'm thinking of the 51" 3D lg plasma...how are they when light hits them? Because I like to watch tv with the sliding door open sometimes!

I personally prefer plasma over LCD (Panasonic first choice, Samsung 2nd), but if you watch TV with a lot of light streaming in, you'll most likely be happier with an LCD.

I'd imagine the passive LG sets are more comfortable to view for extended periods (not to mention the glasses being far cheaper). You also sit quite far from your TV don't you? Resolution really isn't all that important unless you sit close enough to your set to notice. Best thing to do is just to go check out the sets and try them out for yourself.

FYI: Game is selling the Samsung PS51D550 (51" 3D Plasma) for R9999!

Anyone have one? Any recommendations?
