New addition to collection
« on: August 31, 2011, 02:05:01 pm »
I already own the Sennheiser hd 595, Grado SR60i and Sennheiser hd25-ii.

Can anyone recommend a preferably open headphone that is good with vocals and piano?

Bearing in mind that I'm a student and limited to something in the range of R3000.
The hd-800 is at the moment a story for another day...

I have one of those that Tangmonster built, at the moment it is more than adequate, not sure for hd650's though.

What about something from Audio Technica or AKG, I have never experienced the hd650's, but a secondhand pair would probably provide the best value for money.

I have a set of HD650s at R3500 in the classifieds...otherwise look at AKG 701s

I'm not sure if the 598 is an improvement over the 595, except for the wooden inserts... :P

I haven't experienced them personally, but it feels more like a lateral move than an upgrade.  I suppose they have to be a bit better

Well... same brand same amount of dosh... upgrade is unlikely... if you are looking for something different Sure by all means... but then go to AKG or something else, not another sennheiser
OK! I've had it! I don't give anymore Kharma. Kharma should work in mysterious ways...

I agree, at some point I will replace the 595 for a 650.

Has anyone tried any Audio Technica headphones, except the M50?
Where can I find an AKG 701 secondhand?

I don't think Stax falls within my budget constraints, or do they? I can't find a price in SA for them on the internet.

If I can't find used AKG 701, I think I'll go the import route, they look like the best fit

I have a client who may be willing to sell a nearly new pair of Quincy Jones K701s.
