Quality of Radio in South Africa

The quality of radio in SA is "below par" relative to the international scene.

Currently I am listening to Radio 1 Vlaandere Internasionaal via sattelite.
It is not even the effort worth to compare a station like Jacaranda to RVI.

Profesional & very modern without being obscenely radical. Music is a treat as there is virtually no repeats!! They play the nicest music you ever would like to listen to. (Ch 171 on DStv Audio)

What is your views of the quality of radio in SA?

I listen to SAFM and Fine Music Radio (FMR). They have their moments...

I'm a big Mansfield/Rude Awakening fan. While I definitely like that show, the only other listenable show is old Alex Jay, the rest of 94.7 is baaaaad.. 5fm is unbelievbaly kak kak kak kak, especially that retard in the mornings.

OFM, oh dear.....

Classic FM does play nice music, but us Potchefstroomers don't receive it....pity.....

So... the answer is you buy one of these and broadcast your own FM Stereo music!

There's not much choice, is there? 5 FM plays largely doof-doof music, 94.7 plays a lot of nice stuff, but they have a habit of murdering good songs by playing them 6 or 7 times a day. Jacaranda plays some nice stuff, but their signal isn't great, especially in the car. I've taken to keeping a few fav CDs in the car with me to alleviate the horrors of having to listen to Highveld's repeats.
Don't judge me for being quiet - no one plans a murder aloud.

Well down here by the beach we've only REALLY got 5FM, Eastcoast (which is a bit better) and then the few national ones that are available and not always great reception for those

Apart from the stalwarts (i.e. English Service, RSG, Radio 2000 & three indigenous stations), we have a choice of the following:

OFM (Regional FM Station, good on Sundays with Kevin Savage, otherwise varies from good music to crap)
Jacaranda (pick it up from the Lichtenburg transmitter at night & early morning only, tends to get boring)
5FM (yeah.... 'nuff said!)
Highveld (or 95.2 in our area, pick it up from Welverdiend Transmitter. Cannot stand the terrible twins who come on every night at 7PM)
One of the Afrikaans Regional stations on 96.1 FM (used to be Radio Pretoria, but it has a new name that escapes me at the moment.)

I have a World Space radio, but haven't used it for yonks, since they started charging for content.
