Apart from Demo's and Samplers
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:11:33 am »
Apart from most of us having stereo as first preference, a good movie is always welcome. So which movies have u heard, thalack t have surround sound that is actually well recorded (actual surround/explosions/gun shots/etc).
I do not own an HT system, so always listen in stereo, but a few movies like:

Black Hawk Down
Tears of the sun
Priest
The Dark Night

have caught my ear on movies that sound like movies should...

Which movies do your rate highly on recording....?

I enjoyed both Batmans...the real ones, with Christian Bale.
Agreed on Black Hawk Down.

Must check through my DVD tonight to refresh my memory. Tron is brilliant.

i always use the following blu-rays for demo since they are all fantastically recorded

1) Tron Legacy (obviously) - the scene when he has to "survive" in the games
2) Transformers 2 - scene in the forest where the the transformers battle each other and when Prime is killed and also the scene close to the end where the transformers release Sam's parents as a trap to lure him and then a transformer bounces up over the wall to capture him and spins its tentacles all around you .... i swear you always hear that damn transformer bouncing up and down higher than your ceiling (if you have a good system)
3) Heat - the bank robbery scene - closest to real sounding guns ive heard a movie scene even though it is a bit far fetched from reality it sounds real enough if you play it loud cos the gunshots seem to have a real impact
4) sherlock holmes - the first twenty seconds features a horse drawn carriage that starts of way behind you then works it way towards your rear speakers and goes past your ears toward the front speakers as you see it moving forward on the screen .... fantastic sound effects
5) legends of Jazz - its not a movie but its my favourite sound demo blu-ray - the picture on it is not bad too - if your TV is good trust me you will know it if you play this disc

"Master and Commander: Far side of the World". Even in stereo you feel like you're on a ship. They obviously went through a lot of trouble with the sound. I see it won a BAFTA for best sound, and an Oscar nomination for best sound mixing.

I like the sound in the Bourne movies, but it might just be because I really like the movies. It's nice and dynamic.

-I actually bought Master and Commander DVD just for the sound and cinematograhpy...but then I'm a sucker for "sea/ocean" movies. Thats why, I also like Inception!!

"Master and Commander"

Who know's, maybe Russel Crowe pitches in for the sound - considering "Gladiator".  :)
I've added this on my "movies to watch " list.  :)

The special effect sounds are really very good. The drone/hum/rumble that accompanies any scene with the eye of Sauron is very cool. "BUILD me and army!" *goosebumps*.

Although I hated George Lucas for turning the last three Star Wars films into kiddie films, there are certain scenes in each of them that will give most AV systems a run for their money: the race in the first film, then some of the battle scenes in the second and third.
