LOL, why cradle snatcher??? He is 57 and she is nearly 50 - OK - 47..... only 10yrs diff.

I didn't really know their ages, just took a guess as I'm sure he was on the scene in the 70's already.

Much of Elvis is not so hot, but "Watching the Detectives" is one of my all time favourite "can never be improved upon" tracks.

Looks like I was wrong about the originality of the two songs she didn't co-write the lyrics for; I hope my hearing doesn't go as fast as my memory :-(

But The Girl In the Other Room is still my favourite Krall album, by far - it just seems more personal.

A bit late on this thread, but I like Krall's singing/playing although I am not that informed of the origins of all the songs she covered/wrote/co-written..... Have a couple of her albums.

I love Diana Krall. Some music are just much better if you see the performance as well. Diana on Blu-Ray is sublime.

The list of women who can sing better than Diana Krall is LONG.  But she's a pretty good pianist and the production values on her albums are usually stratospheric. You just need to listen to Quiet Nights - my hi-fi loves that album.  And the songs on The Girl In The Other Room are well composed, with good lyrics (written by hubby Elvis Costello, I think). I have DVDs of her Paris and Montreal concerts, and she does well in a live setting.  Her sense of timing is good, and she has enjoyably dry sense of humour. And, of course, she is a FOX.

But I stand by my first point: she is far from being a great singer.  Rather give me Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Anita O'Day, Betty Roche, or Julie London.

Anita O'Day is the one and only white woman who is rightly regarded a jazz diva alongside Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday.  It's kind of the exception that proves your rule :-D

Each to their own I guess! Her albums were not all created equal, I've got "From This Moment On", the engineering is just brilliant, At 2 in the morning, there is nothing to beat it, and I just love that trad/bluesy style and choice of songs. I also have some of her live stuff on DVD, including "Live in Rio", have to agree it is disappointing, I hardly ever play it.

Actually... I introduced Diana Krall to a friend of mine by first playing her music (it was the "Love Scenes" CD). He liked it. Then I showed him the cover. I could see on his face that he was totally surprised that it was not a black singer! And he said as much.

I have long ago realised that a person did not have to be black to have "soul". I inentionally ignored an album called The Best of British Funk (British are white, right?), and so doing missed out on an early introduction to Level 42.
