FS: Garrard 301 Cream Grease Bearing Schedule 1 + Ortofon arm
« on: August 15, 2011, 12:05:00 am »
This sale breaks my heart ;D but this baby's gotta go before I get attached to it. Reason? I already have one and several more oil bearing decks.

I have cleaned and serviced it, as well as fitted the correct spark suppressor. It runs absolutely to speed with the indicator at "O". New mains cord also fitted.

There are two tiny blemishes where the cream paint has worn off right on a sharp edge and this is almost invisible unless one looks closely.

The arm has been fitted with a new sme connector and new, litz wire, as well as that gadget mentioned elsewhere which is entirely removable if not wanted.

The turntable is fitted at present into a 'traditional' sprung plinth which is also included. I have spent considerable time listening to it using test records and a stethoscope and there is no untoward problem.

More detailed pics are at your disposal.

Market-related offers awaited.

More pics. forgot to mention. There is an original Garrard plattermat but it has become hard and the spindle hole slightly enlarged, also included but I have also made a cork mat to go.

I mentioned there were a few blemishes on the 301's cream paintwork. Some pics are added.

Nice Ad!!
That setup looks to be in top notch condition and slightly & pleasantly quirky as well
 ;)

How would that compare to a typical "hi-fi" looking record player - ie just a normal audiophile tuntable without that chuck of wood you call the plinth
sorry wording is a little spazzed   :-\
How much do they typically go for?

How 'bout you check the universal value reference, at least? (Ebay) ;) Might find yourself a bit ... surprised?

The equipment was acquired already mounted on this sprung system - a recommended mounting method straight from Garrard's 301 handbook. The reason was that most houses had sprung wooden floors and the mounting system was to alleviate footfall shocks to the equipment.

Some price research on ebay will give you some insight. The arm is a 12" Ortofon model RKG-309. Price info on the 'net here as well.

That is rather attractive, gives me a good idea for my Lenco re-plinth. Thanks

@mafioso - what does that roller do on the left side of the deck?
-is it an anti-static cleaner for the vinyl?

Thanx

Please don't accuse me of being nasty. What is so 'nasty' about intellectual property?

Hi Prince

That is a Watts Dustbug. Still occasionally found at local flea markets or if you feel flush, a mate o' mine makes them too, right here in Plumstead.

Some don't believe in them but I do ;) The bristled brush loosens dust and the 'roller' which doesn't roll - collects all dust in the path of your cartridge. I use them on all my turntables.

Cecil Watts the English designer has long since departed for vinyl skies but his idea lives on.

Hi

I have seen this particular deck and you won't find a better one in good nick other than the ones Blue Angel has.  The headshell alone is worth lots and sought after and damn sexy in an Austin Power's sought of way.
