Like I said, I'm not trying to piss on any batteries here, just saying that it'll be hard to DIY what Juggy wants for R3k.

For R3k Juggy you can do a pair of:

Eish, can I change the colour?

Are Visaton speakers really that pricey?

Ouch, I've just seen the prices for the speakers alone.

2 x Visaton DTW 72 polycarbonate domes - R330
2 x Visaton TIW 200 XS 8" bass drivers - R2884
2 x Visaton W 100 S 4" mid - R710

That's pretty much 4K before I've even bought the beer for the build :(

Reckon I'll buy 2nd hand rather or find something cheaper to build...

Hi Juggy
You could save some cash and go with the W200S.
They are about R1400 for a set. I tested them and they impressed me.

I am almost done with my Starlets and will have them at the DIY audio showcase 2011 Gauteng.
Where are you?
PM me if you want to attend.

Is this your first build? >> If so and you don't want to gamble large sums of cash then consider the Infinity dynamic drivers.
If 8" is what you want look at the LS-0213 or LS0209. http://www.scotronics.co.za/item_list.php?cat=68
The TS parameters are not readily available but I have factory measured freq response curves for these drivers.
They are locally made and inexpensive (+- R500 a set)
And if you do the project from scratch you could measure the TS params. with speaker workshop.
I have used Infinity dynamics before and they are not to bad. In fact there are others on this forum that have also used them.

Visaton also has the Ws 20 E8. Maybe Noizyboy could get those for you or you could get them at RS electronics for a little more.

Well all the best with the planning.

You can have then in any color you like - you will be painting them afterall...  ;D

The drivers came in at around R550 for the Zaubers.

Juggy you are looking at the wrong 8" its not the TIW200 it is the W200s which is R 625 ea

An 11 litre bass reflex bookshelf with this woofer and tweeter:

http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/soft-dome-tweeters/sinar-baja-twd25nh05-1-textile-dome-truncated/

Should work out to about R1000 incl the postage, binding posts and import tax, and another maybe R500 for xo components. Maybe R2000 all in with glue, paint, dog blanket etc.

I also have no idea what that will sound like, soooo...... The tweeters are very competent, and those Fostex drivers are popular enough.

It's not cheap, especially at the budget end. If it's speakers you want, and not a strong desire to lose your diy virginity, second hand will probably get you better speakers.  ;D

Well I've decided I will rather buy 2nd hand speakers and spend my money on re-building my Lenco 75 rather.
