The A500 Really Delivers
Professional audio engineers around the world are impressed by the A500’s performance and surprised by its affordability. Capable of delivering 2 x 300 Watts into 4 Ohms or 600 Watts into 8 Ohms bridged, the A500 has enough headroom to always keep you on the safe side. Advanced convection-type cooling technology ensures stable, noise-free operation, while its servo-controlled design can drive virtually any passive speaker.
Metering and I/O
A precise level meter and clip indicators are provided for accurate performance monitoring. Input connections are provided in the form of balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors, as well as unbalanced RCA sockets, ensuring you have loads of input options. Plus, the speaker outputs give you the choice between professional “touch-proof” binding posts and 1/4" TS connectors.
Reliability
To ensure years of trouble-free operation, we use only Toshiba or Fairchild high-power transistors that are known for their rock-solid reliability. In addition, an independent thermal overload protection system, with LED indicators for each channel, automatically protects both your amplifier and your speakers. Last but not least, we use tough, high-current toroidal transformers for absolute reliability and the lowest possible noise interference.

Did/would you use this amp in a typical home stereo set-up?

I used them to power my Kratos subs in an actively amplified system and they worked admirably.  see http://users.iafrica.com/g/gu/guidodg/

I have no idea how they would work in a normal stereo setup but am sure they would work pretty well driving inefficient speakers.

Hey guido,

How did you filter off the high frequencies?

Hello Guido,

Can you give a an idea of how the transport charges would run for sending up to Johannesburg?

Thanks,

Sten.

2 subs and the crossover would cost around R800 to ship by Internetexpress couriers

Price of crossover is R4000

The 2 subs are R9000 for the pair

If you take the crossover, subs and Behringer 2x300w amp to power them the total is R14000 plus shipping

The Marchand 3 way deluxe active crossover can also be used in 2 way mode to implement one or 2 subs into an existing speaker system.

I will supply a number of different on-board resistor modules in order to tailor the specific crossover frequencies [if the 3kHz and 1.5kHz crossovers are not the ones required]

Adire Audio Shiva 12" drivers in  sealed 88L enclosures.

The panels are 22mm MDF with extensive internal bracing, filled with 450grams of polyfill stuffing .
The drivers have dual voice coils and can be wired in parallel or wired to drive one coil and loading the other coil with a 250Ohm pot in order to vary the Q range. This changes the impedance from 8 ohms to 4 ohms to suit different amplification.

Will this work:

Yamaha RXV2067, hooked up to the Behringer as the power amp to drive 2 Polk audio RTi-a9s as the main fronts?

If so, this may be sold.  Please comment guys.  Thanks

yes it would work. Personally I would prefer a hi-fi amp over a pro-amp for my home setup though.

I honestly cannot say I like the Behringer's looks, but I bought one from Gert some time ago (eventually sold it again, itching, CUD and all that  :P) and found it to be capable, quiet and well-built, despite the reservations about the name. Apparently quite a few of these have found their way into HT installs over the years.
