Thanks Dewald it makes sense that the voice coils may have come loose and for the rest, you are quite right.

I will probably have to remove the cloth to get to the voice coils and then see what is required. Have mailed a guy in the States who used to work for Magneplanar to try and get a schematic and more information.

I suspect there will be plenty dedicated Maggie forums with tips on how to refurb panels.
Crimpolene (spelling?) gets my vote for easy to work with grille cloth material.
Someone I once knew completely rebuilt a pair of Maggies with braced metal frames getting rid of all floppy flimsy tendencies. Guess what?
Wasted effort and material....no real change.
The C versions had little loopy things on the feet to allow a little tilt adjustment. This was worthwhile...

LOL @ FD. I recently got my mom onto MSN. She is now spinning the emoticons like a pro.

I think FD has outdone even me!

I would love to post some pics, but I can't upload here and all the "photo" websites are blocked by Websense!

I pulled the sock on one of the speakers up a bit and found the cause of the low frequency vibration. Some of the mid/bass planar wires are not attached to the planar(membrane). This sounds more serious than it really is, but its not as the wires are not corroded or broken. I need to find out what type of glue I can use to attach the wires without causing damage to the planar.

Otherwise it would be very easy to restore the speakers as the panel sits in a wooden frame similiar to a pictue frame and can be replaced. The same applies to the socks as well as they just "pull over" from the top and is stapled at the bottom.

I think I will mail the pics to Skinny and ask him to make it available.

Told ya so... Try using one of Pratleys flexable epoxys to fix the loose "voice-coil" wires.

Oh goodie!

Dewald are those epoxys non-corrosive?
