...if the amp is safe I won't mind it beign demo'd on my speakers...
Ouch! Demoin' our precious hard-silver-wired jewellery on a set of potentially internally shorted speakers? Or, in the mildly better case, non-shorted but with madly swinging impedance and inconsistent resistance???
Huuuhhh! Only if you bring less than 1 week old certificate of SABS electronic compliance and sign the 200% damages liability contract!

I am sure we could get a welder configured to produce some kind of sound with your speakers.

I am more than willing to throw my amps into the mix

Great so we team up against the comercials and body slam them!! Who will take the credit?? the amp or the speaker?
We have plenty of time we will work something out.
It doesn't look like we will get more time on the day. The shop will be open until 12:00
They will get back to me however.

If there is anybody of you attending that did not let me know about your project that you want to show, please pm me with the detail
I want to compile a list of projects on show.

Thanks
Dewald

Dewald,

I see the problem with space and time. About space there appears little to be done - perhaps a little standing space extra. I also would not like simultaneous demonstartions - I can assume my of us would like to attend both (those not interest can take a smoke-break).

But what limits the conclusion time to 17:00? I myself would not mind going on until quite later and I rather reckon others might too? If this limitation lies with your business, then with all respect they must recognise that there is promotional value in this. They are already benefitting from the attendance fee if I understood that correctly. Knowledge will be imparted, and I would cautiously say that some exhibits might at least equal whatever is available in its particular class on the present market, and nobody is going to party the place to pieces. (We will have a few of our 2,3m tall 230kg moderators there.) Is it possible to engage in some diplomacy in that direction if that be the limitation?

PS: Sorry, I noticed snacks and drinks will be available - that will absorb most of the attendance fee.

Hi All
Regarding the post form Ampdog let me just address some points.

1.) The Venue (HiFi installations) and myself have no affiliation other from me being a client. When I started looking into doing the showcase I considered getting sponsorship from industry to try and decrease the cost of tickets. At that stage Greg said that he will allow us to use there shop space to hold the event. He is indeed aware of the promotional value and I am sure he will consider allowing us to continue past that time. That being said I still have to ask him as they have to have personell present and that have cost implications for him.
2.) The attendance cost budget breakdown is as follows.
Cost per person
Snacks p/pR30
DrinksR20
Chair Hire p/pR8
Glass and plate hireR2
Name tag+printingR5
Overheads
Table hire p/tR18x5R90
Transport of hired equipmentR200
Breakage @10%R58
With 50 attending the budget works out to R71.98. Lets hope nothing breaks  ;D
The point being that nobody is making anything of this You are getting every sent back that you spend.
3.) I am drawing up a list of all the exhibitions and will post that near the end of this month. Then I will be able to finalize the program. Space will not be a big problem at this stage but I will manage it accordingly. In the mean time Please send me detail s about your projects that you want to show. We have a lot of speakers but could do with more Amps and Source (dacs or turn tables). I will post the list tonight.
4.) At some stage we might have to restrict the exhibits to only DIY (Self build, and refurbish) due to space and time constraints.
5.) I would like to run a little competition as well and therefore need to ask people from industry for some vouchers ex. If you own a travel agency give us accommodation for a weekend OR if you own a restaurant, how about a meal voucher OR if you have a spare drill and would like to have you name mentioned please sponsor that.

Ampdog thanks for you comments. I don't think we will be able to put posters and stuff on the walls But you should be able to stick it to the table. ;)

All the arrangements are under way and I have a meeting with the host next month. Than I will get all the final arrangements.
Thanks for all the support.

Dewald

As long as no valve audio equipment makes it into steam punk fashion accessories that should be fine.

Dewald, I really appreciate your assistance with this and really look forward to meeting some of the guys again.

Don't underestimate the willingness of the forum members to help if there are things needed last minute. It being an audio shop should simplify power provisioning.

Hi,

Just on another important point. What are we going to listen to. As the music that one selects could make or break a sound system in a sense, I think we should select one or more "reference" pieces that we can listen to, so we can hear/become-aware of potential differences with the same music. Similarly the source should preferably be the same.

Just trowing it out there,

Regards.

100% correct.
I would appreciate it if someone could help with some reference recordings that we could use.
The source we need to discuss but I think I could arrange that with HiFi installations.
Unless someone has something Super that we could use.
For the vinyl recordings, I would suggest that the members bring there own treasures.

This is open for discussion!!

Thanks MorneDJ
