How about two projetors & Polaroid glasses?
I saw some 3D videos at the Everard Reed gallery in the mid '80s. They were using two three-tube CRT projectors, and a pair of gen-locked U-matic video cassette recorders.

I know (hope!) this wasn't a serious suggestion, but it got me thinking! ;D Surely the images projected from each one have to be slightly different to get a 3d effect? We used to look at aerial photos (2 copies of the same photo) through a device called a stereoscope, and it exaggerated the topography terribly. A mound became a mountain.
My ears are fine, I tell you!

This idea of using two projectors is very real and works, I have done it in a commercial application

There are some dual 3D projectors available that use polarised glasses but only towards the high-end, such as the Runco D73d.

Lg have a dual engine projector (ie two light engines into one lens) available locally.
Saw it at a launch a while ago.

Hahaha, or just go anaglyph and wear the red/blue glasses ;) I've done this on my Projector, TV and PC screen all for no cost at all :) But it doesn't compete with the crazy proper stereoscopic stuff.

Hi Brains,

we do the Cineversum Blackwing series of projectors which are all 3D capable - also using the active-shutter-sync-with-glasses-tech (in a nutshell!)

if you want more info pm me or head over to the cineversum site.

As with what Joel mentioned above - there are some great 3D projectors out there, and the differing technologies still cause some issues, but it sounds like you seem to know whats what. The Cineversum models are awesome in standard 2D and the feedback we've had on the 3D side of things has been just as fantastic.

the only problem still is the lack of lots of content. But as i always say, if the client wants it...  ;D
